We are delighted to host The Jesuscina Foundation’s Community Fridge every Monday from 10 am – 12 pm. This is open to everyone in our community without any need to be referred to or having to prove eligibility. People can visit and take whatever food they need or donate food to the fridge.

What is a Community Fridge?

A Community Fridge is a space where anyone can exchange food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s a way of stopping good food ending up in the bin, and promoting a spirit of sharing and mutual support within a community. They are social spaces which help to reduce food waste, build trust locally and normalise the sharing of foods and other household items. Community Fridges are open to welcoming places open to anyone.

Why do we need Community Fridges?

The average UK family wastes £810 a year by throwing away food and drink, and £3 billion is wasted by the food sector. Despite growing awareness of food waste, people and business lack easy ways to pass on food near its ‘sell by’ date to others.

What’s the Community Fridge Network?

In 2016, environmental charity Hubbub launched a Community Fridge in Derbyshire to redistribute good food to the community. This generated loads of learnings and insight how to operate a Community Fridge safely. To share these learnings and connect fridge groups,Hubbub set up the free Community Fridge Network with funding from the Big Lottery. Since then, Community Fridges have popped up across the UK helping thousands connect to their communities, access nutritious food, save money and reduce waste.

How can I visit the Community Fridge?

The Jesuscina Foundation’s community fridge is held in Co-op Academy Belle Vue’s community hub, 450 Hyde Road, M12 4BA. Visitors can use the community entrance that is next to but separate from our main academy entrance.

Co-op Academies Trust has been chosen by the Department for Education to run paid Teaching Internships in STEM and Languages across it’s Greater Manchester academies.

Postgraduate teacher recruitment in 2022-23 was 29% below the Government’s target. This was mainly driven by low recruitment for secondary teachers, where only 59% of trainees needed were recruited. 

As part of a renewed drive to encourage graduates to go into teaching, the Government is revamping their approach. 

Teaching Internships were first introduced a number of years ago, but all providers had to reapply for accreditation this year. The subject focus was also widened to include Chemistry and Foreign Languages. 

Co-op Academies Trust was accredited as a new provider in 2022, joining legacy providers across the region. The trust has 38 Teaching Internships across its 6 Greater Manchester Secondary Schools, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computing and MFL

With Teaching Internships, graduates get the opportunity to experience a range of activities to help them get a feel for school life.

The experience provides undergraduates interested in teaching a unique paid teaching experience to help them decide if teaching is the right career choice for them.  

Internships last for 3 weeks and start from Monday 19th June- Friday 7th July 2023.

Interns are paid £300 per-week whilst they gain new skills and insights into the teaching profession.

Co-op Academies Trust Teacher Training provision was set up to address the shortfall in teacher recruitment as well as retain more practitioners into the profession.

Teaching internships play an important role in preparing future teachers for a fulfilling and successful career in teaching.

The Teaching Internship Programme allows us to introduce potential teachers to the profession whilst they are studying and then support them with their continued ‘Get into Teaching’ journey onto our School Direct ITT Programme.

Co-op Academy Belle Vue is committed to supporting our local community. Community Care is an elective designed to show students why it’s important to have strong communities.

Delivered by Mrs Hibbert, the theme of this elective is climate change and sustainability. Students are working to identify ways that we can work together to build stronger and more sustainable communities. The students hear from our Community and Partnerships Manager so they can support our academy with the development of our community plan, but also so they can see there are career opportunities within community care.

This elective develops each student’s understanding of communities and the need to create sustainable environments, all whilst building team working skills.

Co-op Academy Belle Vue’s electives programme is coordinated by Ms Clarke and Mr Hafekost.

This week we held our Open Evening. It was great to welcome so many Y5 and Y6 students and their families into our academy to experience how we do things differently at Co-op Academy Belle Vue. The evening was led by our new Head of Academy, Mr Fletcher who gave an introduction to our academy whilst our catering team provided samples of our school meals. Our visitors then got to explore our exciting subjects and get stuck into our extra-curricular electives which included making clay models. It was also great to showcase the facilities that our brand new academy on Hyde Road has to offer. We are so proud of our students and staff who went above and beyond as always to make our event extra special.
