  • CARE Principals

    Published 28/02/23

At Co-op Academy Belle Vue, we care about what we do and how we do things.  This principle of care runs through all that we do.  Staff and students at the academy understand the importance of our eight distinct principles of care, and these help us aim high, work together, do the right thing and create a community where enjoyment and hard work go hand in hand.

    Community, Cooperation

We add value and raise the standards within our school and the wider community. We work together relentlessly to persue true inclusivity, equity and diversity.

    Ambition, Achievement

We have the highest ambitions for ourselves and each other. We aim for nothing less than what we are capable of giving.

    Respect, Responsibility

We have a duty to treat each other with dignity and support at all times. Our high standards mean we make well-informed decisions even when nobody is watching.

    Endeavour, Enjoyment

We cultivate ‘joyous purpose’ by championing endeavour, ensuring constant engagement through our curriculum.

  • Community Fridge: Every Monday 10am – 12pm

    Published 03/02/23

We are delighted to host The Jesuscina Foundation’s Community Fridge every Monday from 10 am – 12 pm. This is open to everyone in our community without any need to be referred to or having to prove eligibility. People can visit and take whatever food they need or donate food to the fridge.

    What is a Community Fridge?

A Community Fridge is a space where anyone can exchange food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s a way of stopping good food ending up in the bin, and promoting a spirit of sharing and mutual support within a community. They are social spaces which help to reduce food waste, build trust locally and normalise the sharing of foods and other household items. Community Fridges are open to welcoming places open to anyone.

Why do we need Community Fridges?

The average UK family wastes £810 a year by throwing away food and drink, and £3 billion is wasted by the food sector. Despite growing awareness of food waste, people and business lack easy ways to pass on food near its ‘sell by’ date to others.

    What’s the Community Fridge Network?

In 2016, environmental charity Hubbub launched a Community Fridge in Derbyshire to redistribute good food to the community. This generated loads of learnings and insight how to operate a Community Fridge safely. To share these learnings and connect fridge groups,Hubbub set up the free Community Fridge Network with funding from the Big Lottery. Since then, Community Fridges have popped up across the UK helping thousands connect to their communities, access nutritious food, save money and reduce waste.

How can I support the Community Fridge?

You can donate food by visiting our main academy reception. Please contact bellevue@coopacademies.co.uk. You can see the rules of what you can and can’t donate by visiting https://www.hubbub.org.uk/the-community-fridge

How can I visit the Community Fridge?

The Jesuscina Foundation’s community fridge is held in Co-op Academy Belle Vue’s community hub, 450 Hyde Road, M12 4BA. Visitors can use the community entrance that is next to but separate from our main academy entrance.

  • We’ve launched paid Teaching Internships in Greater Manchester

    Published 09/01/23

Co-op Academies Trust has been chosen by the Department for Education to run paid Teaching Internships in STEM and Languages across it’s Greater Manchester academies.

Postgraduate teacher recruitment in 2022-23 was 29% below the Government’s target. This was mainly driven by low recruitment for secondary teachers, where only 59% of trainees needed were recruited.

As part of a renewed drive to encourage graduates to go into teaching, the Government is revamping their approach.

Teaching Internships were first introduced a number of years ago, but all providers had to reapply for accreditation this year. The subject focus was also widened to include Chemistry and Foreign Languages.

Co-op Academies Trust was accredited as a new provider in 2022, joining legacy providers across the region. The trust has 38 Teaching Internships across its 6 Greater Manchester Secondary Schools, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computing and MFL

With Teaching Internships, graduates get the opportunity to experience a range of activities to help them get a feel for school life.

The experience provides undergraduates interested in teaching a unique paid teaching experience to help them decide if teaching is the right career choice for them.

Internships last for 3 weeks and start from Monday 19th June- Friday 7th July 2023.

    Internships taking place at:
    Co-op Academy Manchester
    Co-op Academy North Manchester
    Co-op Academy Failsworth
    Co-op Academy Belle Vue
    Co-op Academy Swinton
    Co-op Academy Walkden

Interns are paid £300 per-week whilst they gain new skills and insights into the teaching profession.

Co-op Academies Trust Teacher Training provision was set up to address the shortfall in teacher recruitment as well as retain more practitioners into the profession.

Teaching internships play an important role in preparing future teachers for a fulfilling and successful career in teaching.

Co-op Academies Trust works in partnership with University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford, Bright Futures SCITT and Associated Merseyside Partnership SCITT.

“At Co-op Academies Trust we are looking to develop outstanding teachers who will deliver the best possible education for all of our pupils and students. The Teaching Internship Programme allows us to introduce potential teachers to the profession whilst they are studying and then support them with their continued ‘Get into Teaching’ journey onto our School Direct ITT Programme.

“Over the 3 weeks, our interns will receive opportunities to immerse themselves within the profession, give them an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, provide them with the opportunity to work with and teach students, develop their subject and pedagogical knowledge and guide them on applying for initial teacher training.”- Andy Gibson, Head of Initial Teacher Training, Co-op Academies Trust

The deadline to apply is Friday 10th March 2023.

Delivered by Ms Bowden, this elective gives students the chance to learn more about the animals we know and love whilst also discovering new species. This week, students have learnt about bird courtship rituals. Their favourite fact is that Manakins can moonwalk and the Lyre bird can mimic sounds like car alarms and camera shutters!

This elective develops each student’s understanding of various animals and gives them the opportunity to study a new species of their choice.

Co-op Academy Belle Vue’s electives programme is coordinated by Ms Clarke and Mr Hafekost.

Every student at Co-op Academy Belle Vue takes part in our exciting and varied electives programme. Electives are period five school clubs that ensure our students take part in extracurricular activities. Electives change every half-term. Each week we’re going to focus a news story on a different elective so you can see the variety of sessions we deliver.

Lead by Mr Hafekost, Mini Apprentice is an elective focused on raising each student’s awareness of the business world and developing a entrepreneurial skill-set. By exploring unique selling points and marketing techniques, this elective encourages students to be creative.

Using the Nike Face ID app, students designed their own trainers. We asked our online community to help us choose which entry deserved to win. Our winning apprentice was Entry 2! Thank you to everyone who voted.

All of our students showed determination and resilience and it was great to see our Y7 girls team winning third place and receiving bronze medals. Well done to everyone who took part!

  • The Belle Vue Difference

    Published 03/10/22

    Electives

Every student at Belle Vue takes part in a varied and exciting electives programme towards the end of the school day.  Students can choose from a wide variety of sessions ranging from Latin, debating and local studies, through to boxing, coding and entrepreneurship (and everything in between).

This is a great way for our students to discover talents they never knew they had, develop existing skills and make new friends!

Electives change each half term. Example of electives we have had include:

    • Boxing
    • Science club
    • Debating
    • Positivity project
    • Drama
    • Art club
    • School food champions
    • Football
    • Belle Vue Project
    • History club
    • Creative writing
    • Netball
    • Community cares
    • Clay modelling
    • Latin
    • School food champions
    • British sign language
    • Chess Club

    Digital Commitment

Every student at Belle Vue is given their own Chromebook to help them with their learning.  Students use these in almost every lesson, and teachers upload lesson content and resources so that students can work seamlessly in school or at home. Our whole curriculum and all of our resources are based in the cloud!   We believe that 21st century schools should operate in 21st century ways, and we are committed to being digital in what we do and the way that we do it.  Of course, this also means that we can communicate with students and parents really well and that we can reduce our carbon footprint.

    The School Year

We run a slightly different school week, term and year at Belle Vue.  Because all students take part in our exciting elective programme, the school day is slightly longer from Monday to Thursday.  In return, students have longer, two-week half term breaks rather than one.  Our different approach to organising the school year means that Belle Vue students receive an extra 227 hours of structured teaching over the course of the year.  This helps our students to achieve more and succeed in their studies.

    Family Dining

Lunch time is slightly different at Belle Vue too.  Our students sit together in their form groups for lunch time and they are joined by their form tutor, who eats with them and has the chance to get to know them even better. This creates a calm and structured dining experience for everyone.   Of course, students still have their own social time too.
