We have recently had the privilege of hosting secondary directors from the Co-op Academies Trust, who reviewed our curriculum intent and implementation across all of our subjects.
The feedback from the visiting directors was overwhelmingly positive, serving as validation for Belle Vue's commitment to providing a world-class educational experience for our students. Notably, the review process offered valuable insights for the Academy's continued improvement, highlighting areas for focused attention in the future.
We want to thank all of the directors for their time, expertise and support. The collaborative effort between the school and the Co-op Academies Trust underscores a dedication to academic excellence and succeeding together.
Mr Fletcher said “A massive thank you to the students and staff for showcasing their hard work, character, knowledge and commitment to being the very best they can be. This review shows the excellent curriculum we deliver to our students and provides us with feedback to strengthen even further.”
Director comments from the Curriculum Review:
"The ambition and scope of this curriculum are evident in both the intent and implementation. Students tackle challenging texts, use sophisticated language and grapple with complex themes."
"The conceptual approach to literature is a superlative strategy for equipping students to approach literary study. It is evident from curriculum planning and resources that students will be better placed than many students in the Trust to tackle the literary essay writing at GCSE."
"The history curriculum mirrors the key principles exemplified in the whole school documentation. It is broad and balanced in its scope - covering an extensive chronological sweep from 1000 AD through to 2001, its balance comes through its commitment to promoting a diverse range of voices and considering history from a range of different perspectives. Its design is ambitious, knowledge rich and text rich - exposing students to complex and challenging historical developments, whilst giving ample opportunities to develop literacy and reading."
"Students are able to build up tangible examples of these complex concepts and appreciate how they develop and change over time. The curriculum is designed in such a way that students appreciate how their current enquiry links to both previous and future learning."
"As a result of the teaching they receive, students show a clear knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and phonics. For example, when questioned, they can explain grammar points and the difference between phoneme sounds in Spanish and in English."
"Excellent curriculum planning, especially in the medium term, that identifies key knowledge for students to cover the NC and beyond, and enter KS4 in the strongest position possible."
"The sequencing of curriculum topics at KS3 allows for a building of knowledge on top of prior learned knowledge. Key aspects of geography such as risk, inequality and landscapes are interleaved through the Geography curriculum."
"Through the curriculum scaffolding in English is useful through Reading for Learning strategies, FASE reading, Vocabulary clarifications and sentence starters to support students with SEND."
"The maths curriculum focuses on fluency and foundational knowledge in a spiral sequence, seeking to build on prior learning and ensure students are confident with new topics, supporting our SEND students by introducing new information in manageable chunks."
