Head of Academy Letter Home | Attendance

The importance of attendance

Dear Belle Vue Families,

Firstly, thank you for your ongoing support for this academic year so far. We have made another brilliant start to the year. Our students are thriving in the classroom, and we look forward to celebrating their Knowledge Expert scores with them all next week.

Knowledge Expert Reports will be sent home to families on Friday, November 10th.

Why is attendance so important?

Students who averaged more than 90% across all of their subjects from their Knowledge Expert scores had an average attendance percentage of 97%. Just one in 20 pupils who are severely absent during exam years get at least five good GCSEs. 78% of those who were rarely absent got five good GCSEs.

As I talk about all of the time, we are doing things at Belle Vue that other schools wait until Year 10 & 11 to do. This is putting our students in the best possible position to be successful and have the best grades in the country. If students are not regularly attending school, then they are missing out.

We return to the academy on Monday, November 6th, with a very important week as we close the gaps in knowledge from recent assessments and prepare our students for new topics. Again, if students are absent, then they are missing out. We need everyone to be in every day. An end-of-term reward trip will be launched next week. Students will be able to go on the trip based on their behaviour and outstanding attendance.

As the Head of Academy, I see attendance as our priority for this half term. As a result, I will now be leading on this and sending out regular communications. I want to thank you for supporting me with this and ensuring your child/children attend our academy every day, giving themselves the best possible life chances through expert learning and expert teaching.

How much education is your child missing?

90% is to be celebrated on an exam but with attendance this means you are missing 19 school days a year.
