Half Term 6: Careers Newsletter

Inspiring Futures, Empowering Transformation

Welcome to Our Summer Term!

As we head into the final term of the school year, we are looking back at an incredibly busy, successful, and inspiring few weeks of career experiences. From high-profile guest speakers to university visits and hands-on business projects, our students have been busy developing the skills they need to shape their own bright futures.

Here is a round-up of what our amazing students have been up to!

🎓 Out and About: Trip Round-Ups

1. Digital Her Industry Insights Day

Our career adventures kicked off with a wonderful group of our students attending the Digital Her Industry Insights Day at the Booking.com Manchester Office. As part of Manchester Digital’s gender diversity programme, the day aimed to spark a lasting passion for the tech sector. Our students toured the stunning professional workspace, engaged in an inspiring career Q&A session with tech professionals, and built critical teamwork skills during a hands-on "Agile" workshop.

2. Year 8 Powering Transformation Day at UoM

Following this, our ambitious Year 8 students visited the University of Manchester for the "Powering Transformation" programme, hosted in collaboration with The Talent Foundry.

The day started with a beautiful campus tour led by UoM student ambassadors, taking in the historic Oxford Road site to experience university life first-hand. Later, our students took part in intensive workshops, brainstorming creative solutions to global problems like food wastage and the environmental impact of AI.

Our students completely blew the hosts away! The university ambassadors noted that our group was the best they had seen all year, remarking that the quality of their final presentations was better than many current university students! A huge thank you to Mr Ashraf and Miss Shakeel for supporting our students throughout the day.

3. Black Inclusion Week: School Safari

Most recently, to celebrate Black Inclusion Week, our students were invited to a brilliant School Safari at the Auto Trader office at Circle Square. Led by industry role models from Auto Trader’s Ethnicity Network, the event allowed students to dive into coding, data exploration, and digital marketing challenges. They also explored amazing future career pathways including Apprenticeships!

🌟 A Special Trip Thank You!

We want to extend a massive thank you to Mr Stapleton for his incredible support in making our trips a success. Mr Stapleton assisted with the Digital Her industry insights day, the Reach Project Trip and the Black Inclusion Week school safari, ensuring our students had a fantastic and smooth experience at Booking.com, Co-op Headquarters and Auto Trader!

🚀 Inspiring Visitors to the Academy

Shaping the Future with EdvoraAI

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Dr Lucy Walton, the Founder and Chief Executive of EdvoraAI, to the academy. Dr Walton delivered a fascinating talk on the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our world. She shared invaluable insights as a tech founder, highlighting the essential digital skills our students will need to thrive and lead in a digital-first economy.

Assembly Spotlight: Joseph Belibi

On Wednesday 20th May, we are delighted to host Joseph Belibi, a pastor, founder, and renowned motivational speaker. Joseph will be sharing his powerful personal journey of moving to the UK from Cameroon at a young age. Facing severe language barriers (speaking only French), isolation, and identity challenges, Joseph will speak candidly about how he navigated his struggles and doubts.

✨ Key Messages for our Students:

• You can build something from nothing.

• You are never stuck where you are.

• Your background does not define your future.

The session will feature a relatable talk followed by a live student Q&A, giving everyone the chance to ask questions and find their own inspiration.

A special thank you to Mr Yaseen for introducing us to Joseph and helping us  to secure this incredible opportunity for our school community!

🛠️ Brilliant Projects in Action

Dragons' Den & Reach Projects

Our enterprise spirits are soaring! The exciting Dragons' Den project has officially kicked off, and we cannot wait to see the creative business ideas our students develop.

Meanwhile, our fantastic Reach Project cohort just celebrated a massive milestone, holding their final session right at headquarters! It has been an incredible journey watching these students grow in confidence and capability.

Time 4 Change Project

We are officially halfway through our Time 4 Change project with our wonderful Year 7s! The students have officially chosen their core focus projects and are working hard to plan positive community actions. Their optimism and dedication to creating meaningful change are a true reflection of our academy values.
